In today’s fuel economy, nothing is more important than getting the most miles out of every gallon. You need a reliable, strong engine that can handle towing and daily drives alike. With an innovative, modern design, the RAM EcoDiesel Engine ensures you have the power and fuel efficiency to tackle whatever the road has in store.
RAM EcoDiesel Engine Details
The 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine features a state-of-the-art design and is crafted from graphite iron and aluminum twin-cam heads. It maintains up to 260 horsepower, making it a remarkably strong and capable choice. With emissions in mind, it uses B20 biodiesel, a common blend that provides a good balance of emissions, cost, and cold-weather performance. Active Air Grille Shutters keep the engine quiet, resulting in a comfortable, powerful experience in every drive.
A Note About Biodiesel
Biodiesel is a renewable, biodegradable fuel that is made from animal fats, vegetable oils, and/or recycled restaurant grease. It is a liquid fuel that is often referred to as B100 (pure) but also has many variations and blends. It meets the requirements of the Renewable Fuel Standard and is meant to be used for more environmentally-conscious vehicle designs.
With its use, the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel engine series was designed to curb emissions and reduce environmental impact.
Fuel Economy
Designed with current gas prices in mind, the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel is a fuel-efficient series that provides the best mileage possible. A fuel economy of up to 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway (as of 2023) lets you travel the maximum distance without spending as much at the pump. The 2023 model offers the manufacturer’s longest estimated 4×4 highway driving range in its class, with over 950 miles on one tank alone.
Towing, Torque, and Payload
When properly equipped, the 1500 EcoDiesel engine has an available 9,600-pound maximum diesel towing capacity, giving you the strength and power for all your towing needs. Feel confident on the road with up to 480 pound-feet of available diesel torque, and haul as much as you need with a max payload of up to 1,780 pounds.
Discontinuance
Introduced back in 2014, the EcoDiesel engine was groundbreaking in its design and sale. While it is no longer used in the RAM 1500 pickup series from 2024 onward, it is still available for ordering for select trim models. These include the Tradesman, Laramie, Big Horn/Lone Star, Limited, and Limited Longhorn.
It is expected that the electric version of the RAM 1500 will serve as the EcoDiesel’s replacement. Unlike the EcoDiesel, this vehicle does not use traditional fuel and runs entirely on electricity.
